Latest Satellite Images - 4 February 2012 - 17:14                                                         Next Passing Images - 01:02 AEST

Real time satellite images are received directly from the polar-orbiting NOAA satellites as they pass within range of Bellmere. This data is then processed from it's raw state into the images below. Bellmere is marked as a red cross and major cities are marked in orange. Click on an image to view the larger picture.

Note: The polar-orbiting satellites are approximatly 870km above the earth and travelling with a velocity of over 27,300kmph. Occasionally interference can occur in the reception of the satellite images, which will result in fragmentation of the image. If this occurs revisit this page after 01:02 AEST.

Today's Satellite Passing Schedule - 4 February 2012

Satellite images are only received when any of the NOAA satellites are in range of Bellmere and the schedule of today's satellite passings are detailed below. Depending on which part of the sky the satellite is travelling along, hence the elevation above the horizon at Bellmere, will result in Queensland being displayed in different parts of the picture. An elevation of between 70° and 90° will result in Bellmere being in the centre of the image and an elevation of 35°E will result in Bellmere being in the left of the image and New Zealand visible. The start time is when the radio signal from the satellite is first detected at 5° above the north or south horizon and it will be recorded for the passing duration, which is until the satellite is at 5° on the opposite horizon.
